Blues Mutation Records is an independent record label currently based out of Milledgeville, GA that focuses on original bands who, in their own unique way, reflect the experience of growing up in the deep south. Using an in-house studio, Blues Mutation Records capture the raw sounds of the newest generation of rock, blues, and country. Also specializing in authentic field recordings, we strive to capture those magical once in a lifetime performances that so rarely happen in a conventional studio.
Blues Mutation Records was founded in 2006 to provide support for label owner/artist “Mississippi John Doude’s” debut release, “Blues Mutation”, as well as nearly completed albums by singer/songwriter “Brian Utley,” “The fried spiders,” and “VOV.” Providing international distribution via the internet, Blues Mutation recording artist’s music will be available at most online music retailers, as well as locally at select homegrown records stores across the south..
Studio
At Blues Mutation Studios, we have a very unconventional approach to recording. Instead of tracking in some boring, sterile, "normal" studio, why not record some place special? Some place the artist is really comfortable in. Why not record in a place with historical or sentimental value, or in a building that just sounds great? That way, each album is even more unique.
We also record live shows, or even at your practice space or home for convenience.
You do not have to sacrifice great sound to record on location. We use the same equipment on location that we do "in house".
The studio utilizes both analogue and digital technology. Using 2 MOTU interfaces, we record everything to computer at 24 bit 96kHz., through a unique collection of tube and solid state preamps and mics. "I like the warmth of tubes, combined with the ease of digital editing," says John. "and I prefer the natural sound of a good room to digital effects, anyday."
At Blues Mutation Studios, we strive to find the perfect balance between old and new, between smooth and gritty, between spontatneous and orchestrated.
